Maria Cobarrubias is the daughter of once undocumented immigrants who left Mexico in the late 1970s looking for a better life. They legalized in the 1980s through the Special Agricultural Workers Program under the Amnesty legislation. Sadly, her father never saw his legal permanent resident card as he passed way just before it arrived in the mail when Ms. Cobarrubias was just 8.5 years old. Ms. Cobarrubias recalls the importance of becoming legal residents for her parents and knew one day she would work with the immigrant community.
